Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is officially in development
The BEST news ever. Cinema will return to greatness if they manage to get this right. There has been so much speculation since the last Pirates film Salazar’s Revenge (2017) if there would ever be more films added to the franchise due to public opinion and outside forces.
Currently, there are five pirates feature films in the franchise and with another in development as this is typed. A sixth instalment was always in the works, but during the time a new film had started to take shape, lead star Johnny Depp was dropped by Disney due to his legal troubles.
Since then, talks of a Margot Robbie pirate film was hyped up in the media, and then it wasn’t happening. But now, we have Jerry Bruckheimer confirming that there is a new script being written and that plans are in motion. Set a course.

Jerry Bruckheimer confirms returning cast and new faces
In an interview recently with ScreenRant, Pirates franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer (CSI, Pirates of the Caribbean) stated that some of the original cast members would be returning in the sixth film – although he didn’t say who. He also confirmed that “they” are currently working on a script for the film and that they really want to make it, but it needs to be right.
We need a good pirate film to fill the fantasy gap in the movie-world as it stands and get people excited about films again. This could also be a huge gamble to take given the time we live in now. Can you imagine Captain Jack Sparrow on TikTok?

Orlando Bloom is down to get back together with the crew
Orlando Bloom has also been quite open in a recent interview on This Morning (UK), and when asked a new pirates film he said:
“there’s been talk…I can’t really say anything at the moment because I don’t know, they’re trying to work out what that would look like. I personally think it would be great to get the band back together. It would be great, but there’s always different ideas so we’ll see where it lands.”– Orlando Bloom, This Morning
This sounds very promising – he knows something!

Pirates 6 storyline: what we would like to see in the next film
The possibilities are pretty much endless here to be honest – to those of us with active imaginations. For us, a return of a familiar cast would be super nostalgic and inject all of the right emotions cinematically. However, a fresh new cast would also be welcome, similar to how they played out Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge.
The storyline predominantly follows the lives of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley) and Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp).
It seems as though any kind of script is in very early stages of development so in order to guess where they might go could be tricky. Do they follow on from the post-credit scene in Salazar’s Revenge, where Davy Jones reappeared? Or, do they move into a more modern adventure and move away from this story altogether?
As a side note – we love the character of Davy Jones. We have never quoted so many one-liners from a film franchise as his dialogue. It’s priceless.

Will Johnny Depp return (ever) as Captain Jack Sparrow?
Now, the only actual relvant question to be asking about this news is whether or not Johnny Depp will reprise the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. There has been various rumblings about this in recent years but a reappearance of everyone’s favourite pirate has yet to be made official.
There may have been speculation before that perhaps he would not be returning to the role due to his legal issues and court settlement in his defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Herd back in 2022. Depp mentioned at the time that he would not be returning to the pirates franchise as Jack Sparrow.
However, the tides have turned once again and we have every faith that Disney will make it right and give us our beloved pirate back.
