Is it just us singing Vogue whilst reading this? We don’t think so. Madonna fans rejoice! The queen of pop is getting her own biopic.
Julia Garner (Weapons, The Fantastic Four: First Steps) Thas confirmed that the highly anticipated Madonna biopic is still moving forward and she will be playing the pop star.
In an interview with W Magazine more recently she mentioned that the project was very nuch still alive, “I can’t say too much about it, but yes, it’s a work in progress”
The Ozark star revealed how she first landed the role. She auditioned without formal dance training, taking on the challenge of performing in front of Madonna herself. Garner had to prove she could both sing and dance. Leaning into the confidence of asking herself, “What would Madonna do?”.
It worked. Her fearless energy convinced the team she belonged in the role. Garner also shared her admiration for Madonna’s music, listing Borderline, Papa Don’t Preach, Burning Up, Vogue, Ray of Light, and Confessions on a Dance Floor as personal favourites.
The biopic has had a long journey already.
Originally announced in 2020 with Madonna set to direct and co-write, the project faced multiple delays. Universal dropped it in 2023, but development quietly resumed in 2024 with a working title of Who’s That Girl.
Now in 2025, Garner has reassured fans that the story of Madonna’s rise is still on the table. There’s no release date yet, but discussions around whether it will be a feature film or even a limited series are ongoing.
As Garner put it, anything truly great takes time, and for the Queen of Pop, that feels more than fitting. It is clear from her interviews that Julia Garner is a HUGE Madonna fan so we can expect a passionate and committed performance.
Whatever the format we this is one we definitely don’t wanna miss!
